Still, all this is hard to do when my entire school limits restroom use and the principal's policies blow with the wind. I've really been reflecting on how I've done things for the last four years in my own classroom. Bathroom rules and manners are the focus of this catchy bathroom song for kids. Students are active during our time outside (and so keeping warm) and have regular “shelter” breaks throughout the day in one of the three tree-houses on site, the teepee, a log cabin with a wood-fire, a tent the children have set up, or our classroom inside the school. Only some teachers contracts explicitly address bathroom breaks, and the policies are often pretty austere. Ever since I finished this packet, I've had classroom management on my brain.
